Nowadays website becomes an essential part of every profession. Website makes strong impact on the image of your company. It is very important when you are more concern about exploring your business world wide. If you are not found on the web then you will lose valuable customers as well as the opportunity to advertise your product.
If you have a product to sell, it's almost impossible to become successful without having some way to sell it on the Internet. It's convenient for consumers to research, view and buy your product at any time.
Alongside the importance of having a website focusing relevant product and service is inevitable. The reality is that it is important to have a website. If your company is searched and not found, people are not going to go the extra mile to find you. Today people want correct information quickly. If they cannot find your site they will find another site.
Presence on the Web is important for any business because you can advertise your services, mission statement and anything else necessary for potential customers. The Web is your virtual salesman, and Web real estate is so inexpensive that sometimes a website is the first thing a company does on startup.
Many web page developers seem to think that if you build a page, people will come. Unfortunately, life isn't quite so simple. With several billion pages on the Internet, the odds of someone bumping into yours is rather remote, unless it is well promoted.
Web page promotion entails registering your URL with one or more search engines and portals.
There are literally hundreds of search engines in existence today. Although it is free to add your URL to some search engines, the registration effort does take time.
While we are not breaking any new ground here, I've tried to summarize some of the most important techniques.
1. Have metrics tracking in place-
If my web hosting service doesn't provide a stats system, or provides an inadequate one, I'd sign up for Google Analytics. It offers more data than some small businesses need, but you can't beat the price. You need metrics in place at the beginning so you can track all your upcoming marketing efforts.
2. Create a pay-per-click (PPC) advertising account. Two benefits here-
PPC advertising is a great way to get instant visibility and immediate traffic. Geo-targeting can be particularly effective for small businesses, and allows you to advertise with a smaller budget.
Even if you set an ultra-low monthly budget, you'll still have access to actual search counts for your keyword terms. This data can be invaluable for future marketing and web site development.
3. Write and Distribute a Press Release(s)-
You will have to write this using many of the same SEO copywriting techniques I would for a web page- emphasizing the appropriate use of keywords, especially in the title and the beginning of the release.
4. Take advantage of Local Search opportunities-
Perhaps the most important -- and inexpensive -- strategy is to rank high for your preferred keywords on the main search engines in "organic" or "natural" searches (as opposed to paid ads). Search engines send robot "spiders" to index the content of your webpage, so let's begin with steps to prepare your webpages for optimal indexing. The idea here is not to trick the search engines, but to leave them abundant clues as to what your webpage is about.
5. Add a blog to my web site-
Blogs make great "spider food" (i.e., search engines love blogs) and they're a great way to have an ongoing conversation with customers. I'd use WordPress because it's great, free, and my hosting company probably supports it with a one-click installer. I'd be sure to make it easy for readers to add my posts to social media sites like delicious.com, Facebook, StumbleUpon, etc. It takes a while for a blog to gain traction, so I'd start writing posts as often as my schedule allows. The main goal at this point is just to get in the rhythm of writing and make blogging a habit.
6. Exercising Link building Strategies-
Links to your site from other sites drive additional traffic. But since Google and other major search engines consider the number of incoming links to your website ("link popularity") as an important indicator of relevance, more links will help you rank higher in the search engines. Google has a measure called PageRank that reflects the quantity and quality of incoming links. All links aren't all equal. Links from trusted, popular sites help your site rank higher than links from lower traffic sites.
7. Start A Newsletter-
Newsletters bring customers back to your site on a regular basis. Every webmaster should offer a way for surfers to sign up for a regular email notice. You can send specials, freebies or even site updates notices. The key is to keep in touch with the people you manage to get to your site. It's hard work getting traffic, don't let them leave without offering to stay in touch!
8. Get involve with Social Media-
Our next type of website promotion comes from the mushrooming field of social media, in which people are encouraged to interact with each other, and respond to each other's blog postings and comments. You should be aware of four types of social media: (1) blogs, (2) social networking sites, (3) social bookmarking sites, and (4) forums. Don't be upset if the distinctions between types of social media tend to blur. Social media help promote your site by sending direct traffic, producing links to your site, and generating awareness. The subject is too diverse to go into detail here.
9. Become Part of a Social Media Community-
Some of the best online communities for business include Facebook (www.facebook.com), LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com), and Twitter (www.twitter.com). In addition, you may want to participate in a social bookmarking community in which members share with each other information about websites, articles, or news items that they like (or don't like). These include Digg (www.digg.com), Delicious (www.delicious.com), StumbleUpon (www.stumbleupon.com), and Google Bookmarks (www.google.com/bookmarks/). Search engine spiders troll these sites looking for links to something new and relevant. You can usually place a link to your website in your profile, but the biggest gain comes when other people mention you (which generates traffic to your site), link to you (which increases your PageRank and brings traffic), or bookmark you (which increases your PageRank and brings traffic
10. Be Creative-
Your success at attracting repeat visitors is as important as attracting first time visitors, so be creative about promoting your site to them. An occasional contest giveaway, does wonders.
You could maybe include a scavenger hunt, where your visitors find clues within the content of your site. It's a proven way to get them to read important sections. Prizes may include one year advertising on your site or in your banner exchange.
11. Change Content Often -
Changing or adding content often also helps, as does making your site more interactive with messageboards, chat rooms, newsletters and email services.
12. Set your Automatic Email Signatures -
Set your automatic email signatures. That way your url will be displayed on every outgoing email you send. The more people see your url, the greater the chance they'll visit.
13. Ask Visitors to Bookmark Your Site -
Ask Visitors to Bookmark Your Site. It seems simple, but ask visitors to bookmark your site or save it in their Favorites list. I use a widget called AddThis (www.addthis.com). When you put the AddThis JavaScript on your webpage, it automatically determines the title and URL of that page. When visitors click the button on your page, they are automatically taken to a page that allows them to choose which bookmarking service they prefer, and then pre-populates the appropriate form with the title and URL of your webpage. I use AddThis throughout my website, as well as in my newsletters. If you have good content that people want to bookmark, this can generate hundreds of links to your site and significantly raise your rankings.
14. Promote Your Site in Online Forums and Discussion Lists -
The Internet offers thousands of very targeted e-mail based discussion lists, online forums, and groups made up of people with very specialized interests. Use Google Groups(groups.google.com) to find appropriate groups. Search online for blogs or other forums.
Don't bother with groups consisting of pure spam. Instead, find groups where a serious dialog is taking place. Don't use aggressive marketing and overtly plug your product or service. Rather, add to the discussion in a helpful way and let the "signature" at the end of your e-mail message do your marketing for you. People will gradually get to know and trust you, visit your site, and do business with you
